Bigger Big Rig - Roma

Bigger Big Rig - Roma

The Big Rig was originally constructed over 100 years ago, and today serves as a major tourist attraction for the Maranoa Regional Council. The Bigger Big Rig $5.6 million development saw a new structure built next to the original, complete with a 40 m high observation deck, lift, and elevated 100-metre-long tree walk.

Working in a design and construct engagement with Hutchinson Builders, RMA were the lead structural engineers for this project. In collaboration with the Builder’s project team, RMA’s team analysed and optimised the incumbent engineer’s design during the tender phase to assist in delivering a winning tender. This optimised design included alternative design for the steel structure to reduce overall tonnage, and improved efficiency of the footing system.

The project won the Tourism and Leisure Facilities up to $10 million category in the 2022 Master Builders Queensland Downs & Western Housing & Construction Awards.
