The $8 million Multiple Sclerosis (MS) facility in Toowoomba is a purposefully designed facility to provide specialist care for people living with MS in the Darling Downs region. The three-storey, 12 apartment development will provide independent living and 24-hour care for residents.
RMA were engaged as the lead engineers to take this project from pre-development approval through to construction finalisation. Our surface water, civil and traffic teams worked with the town planner and architect to gain development application and operational works approvals for this site.
To overcome the site’s very poor soil conditions, the structural design incorporated 15-metre bored piers to reduce significant movement. The project had the additional constraint of the structure being located over a sewer. Once the project reach construction, RMA’s dedicated construction management team worked with the contractor to undertake compliance site observations and certification.
This project recently won the Commercial Building from $5 million up to $50 million and Health Facilities up to $20 million at the Master Builders Queensland Downs & Western Housing & Construction Awards.
