In 2013, the Wagner Group approached RMA to assist them with the engineering design of the proposed Wellcamp Airport, located south-west of Toowoomba. The Wellcamp Airport is the first to be built in Australia in 50 years, proving to be a landmark project for the region and the Country.
RMA was engaged as a trusted and local partner to provide and deliver expert knowledge and design for the Structural, Hydraulic, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering components of the project, under extremely tight timeframes.
Faced with a constantly evolving layout for the terminal buildings, and a commitment to airline partners for the runway and terminal to be completed on time, RMA provided expert resources to deliver relevant and innovative solutions for the construction of the Wellcamp Airport.
RMA provided key skills, critical to the success of this landmark project, including:
- consolidation of multiple engineering disciplines,
- integration and collaboration of services, and
- flexibility and responsiveness over the lifetime of the design project.
RMA’s multiple teams collaborated closely to optimise design solutions, utilising 3D Revitt software for the structural steel design and fire services. The flexibility of the design team allowed the designs to evolve in line with the consulting architect. Our team and solutions offered, afforded Wagners the opportunity to construct on time.
The airport is now open for business.
